Good movement patterns are not only crucial to excellence in athletics but also to long-term health. As much as we can, we want to promote pursuing techniques that balance both well.
One program we see benefits in is the Functional Movement Screen (FMS). FMS is a tool developed by Gray Cook and his colleagues in 1997 to help clinicians and health care professions screen individuals for risk of injury and / or a dysfunctional or performance-limiting movement pattern.
This is a common screen used in screening professional athletes as well as younger beginners who want a solid, fundamental base to build their athletic career.
We have partnered with Hudsonville Physical Therapy to develop a customized training program for athletes who want to move with quality and gain efficiency in their biomechanics. It is custom tailored to the athletes that sign up and is typically a 1 or 2 month commitment.
They will do FMS assessments on each athlete, included in the training.
